If you want to continue in science after finishing your PhD, you will likely have to compete in calls for personal grants and program grants. These early-career grants may provide you with an opportunity to do research in another country supervised by leaders in the field. To be ready to be truly competitive in these calls, you should have a strong CV and a fantastic plan to work on, and you need to establish contact with the professor with whom you would like to work. All these requirements cannot be met if you start working on them only after handing in your thesis manuscript. 

In this lecture, Prof. Dr. Ingrid Molema will tell you about various aspects of the Grant Writing process. For example, she will inform you about the career ladder in academia, what personal grants are about, what grant agencies are and what they want from you, what a strong CV looks like, and when to start with what – among other things. There will be plenty of time for you to ask your burning questions as well. The Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing workshop is part one of a four-part series on Grant Writing (see https://www.rug.nl/education/phd-programmes/during/career-perspective-series/courses/beginners-guide-to-grant-writing).

The workshop is free, but registration is required. Be sure to bring your own lunch!
