Sex differences in adverse drug reactions

This month’s outside the bubble lecture focuses on differences between men and women in adverse drug reactions. We will start broadly with a description of the different phases of a drug’s lifecycle and the assessment of sex differences in these phases. Next, we will have a closer look at sex differences in adverse drug reactions. In general, women have a higher risk for adverse drug reactions than men. What about differences when looking at specific drugs or specific adverse reactions? What are possible explanations for sex differences in adverse drug reactions? And what are possible implications for clinical practice? This kind of questions will be addressed during the lecture in which there will also be plenty of room for discussion.
