Cinema Lecture Series: Rosetta, Dardenne Brothers (1999, Palmes D’Or Cannes)
In the context of the Cinema Lecture Series, we screen some of the best movies of global cinema! The screenings are kicked off with a brief introduction by an expert from one of the RUG’s faculties and concluded with an open discussion about the movie in question.
This time we will watch one of the masterpieces of contemporary European naturalism: Dardenne Brother’s Rosetta. At the dusk of the 1990s; the decade of the end of the cold war (and history); the decade of the turn to the self par excellence; the decade of ‘I consume, therefore I exist’; the decade of the big promise of peace and prosperity for all; the Dardenne brothers decide to thematise the reality of precarious lives. What does it mean to be poor and marginalised at the heart of Europe at the dusk of the 20th century?
Dr Giuseppe Fidotta will introduce the movie and steer the discussion after the screening.
The first drink is on us!
