(FULLY BOOKED) The Aesthetic Paradox of Pleasurable Fear – Cinema Lecture

  • 1 Nieuwe Markt Groningen, GR, 9712 KJ Netherlands (map)

In anticipation of this year's Halloween, this special Outside the Bubble (series) lecture will be held by Dr. Julian Hanich, Associate Professor of Film Studies in the Faculty of Arts. It will be a combined lecture and movie screening where he will give you some thrilling insights into the 'Aesthetic Paradox of Pleasurable Fear': why we enjoy getting scared by thrillers or horror movies and how films evoke this sensation in us. The lecture will be special, as this time it will take place in the de luxe cinema located in the Forum Groningen (Camera 3). You will have the chance to listen to his lecture and experience the sensation of pleasurable fear first-hand when watching the classic thriller The Silence of the Lambs (1991), which will be screened after the lecture. There are only 30 seats available—so make sure you sign up fast! Due to the limited spots available, this event will only be available for PhD students but upon request spots may be given to non -PhDs in case they are still available 2 days prior to the event.
