Go Birding
with GOPHER
How many species of birds do you think exist in Groningen? 20? 50? Actually, people have found more than 200 bird species in this area. If you rarely paid any attention to those flying animals around your living space, then this is the best chance to start recognising how amazing/beautiful/adorable/awkward they are ;) Of course, experts are welcomed as well!
Led by passionate and experienced professional birders and ornithologists, we will cycle together to Zuidlaardermeer, a lake at the southeast of Groningen which is known for its beautiful view and a nice beach, besides, a hotspot for bird watching. The tour will start at Linnaeusborg for collecting binoculars, then we will enjoy the beautiful landscape along the cycle path and make several stops once the guides find interesting birds.
After having lunch at Zuidlaardermeer (as always, the first round of drinks is on GOPHER!), we will continue birding around this charming lake. Apparently, a couple of white-tailed eagle also find there to be an attractive habitat for breeding — They had two youngs this summer! We might be able to see the family if we are lucky.
