Dr Alex de Lacey is an Assistant Professor in Popular Music at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. His research focuses on grime and hip-hop performance. His first book, Level Up: Live Performance and Creative Process in Grime Music, is available through Routledge. Alex writes for Songlines and is published in Global Hip-Hop Studies, Popular Music, Popular Music History. The forthcoming Cambridge Companion to Global Rap, for which he is co-editor with Dr Richard Bramwell, will be published in 2025. He DJs for grime crew Over the Edge and runs DRUK, a grime night in Groningen.
