Join Gopher as we visit one of the most beautiful places in the province of Groningen: Bourtange! This former fortress has a unique star-shaped layout, which made it very difficult to conquer back in the day. Nowadays, it is a beloved tourist destination among many, and Gopher would not want to miss giving you the opportunity to take in its lovely ambiance.
Preliminary program:
8:45 - Gather at the bus (location tba)
9:00 - Leave Groningen
10:00 - Arrive in Bourtange
10:30 - Guided tour through the village
11:00 - Visit to the historical artefacts museum and synagoge (in 2 groups; 30 minutes each)
12:30 - Lunch
13:30 - Free time
16:15 - Gather at the bus (location tba)
16:30 - Departure for Groningen
17:30 - Arrival in Groningen
Since Bourtange is notoriously difficult to reach by public transport from Groningen, we decided to rent a bus for ourselves. It is still obligatory to wear a face mask while on the bus, and we expect participants to follow the social distancing and hygiene measures, as put forward by the Dutch government and RIVM, throughout the day.
We will try to make a reservation for lunch at a local restaurant, costs of which will not be covered by Gopher. We will communicate beforehand to you whether we succeeded in doing so. Please indicate during registration whether you would like to join us for lunch. Please be noted that if you do not join us for lunch, you have to organize something (e.g., food, seating) yourself!
Fee: €15 for PhDs, €25 for non-PhDs. This fee includes transportation to and from Bourtange and participation in the guided tour and visits.

Cancellation policy and reimbursement of participation fee
If you are unable to attend an event (paid or free) you have signed up for, or if you have any further questions, please contact the Gopher board beforehand.
Unless otherwise indicated, canceling your registration and reimbursing your paid participation fee can be done until 1 week before the start of the event. Please make sure you read carefully the registration/cancellation procedures in the confirmation email for each event sent by us.
