“Open Up” for Yoga and Mindfulness!

Your development continues throughout your life. Every day, exercises involve a process of trial and error. That makes us people of flesh and blood. Yoga and mindfulness is not about creating the “perfect picture”, but it works for everyone. After all, we all suffer from stress. Doing a PhD creates tensions and pressures. We have experienced this again during the complex and disturbing times caused by Covid-19. The most important thing is how you can support yourself in this in a way that suits you. In this sense, our workshops also provide us with lessons for everyday life.

We start with exercises that are feasible for everyone. Yoga poses offer support, even if you spend hours in front of your laptop. With mindfulness you learn to approach the tensions you are dealing with in a milder and more friendly way. All you need during the workshop is a curious mind and space the size of a bath towel.

Rhodes Selhorst, expert in stress, yoga, and mindfulness, was previously trained as a professional violinist, where she was confronted with symptoms of stress. “Stage fright played tricks on me during concerts. And the hours of practice caused a lot of shoulder problems.” Therefore, her current focus is on developing expertise in stress reduction through mindfulness-inspired movement and meditation. This is called “embodiment”. She has her own Yoga Atelier in Groningen in the Puddingfabriek for fifteen years.
